28 Nov 2007 Go Organic - Your Skin Deserves It ArticlesCarin G Hansenhttp://ezinearticles.com/?Go-Organic---Your-Skin-Deserves-It&id=850123I am certain you have heard that your skin is the largest organ of your body. Yet, when was the last time you thought about feedingit? Every organ in our body must be properly nourished to function and perform optimally. Skin has several functions other than the obviouscovering it provides the body to protect it from disease and injury. One of skins most important functions is to retain moisture and excretewaste through sweat. Another function that we often overlook is its ability to make vitamin D. Vitamin D maintains normal blood levels ofcalcium and phosphorus. It also works to promote bone mineralization to keep our bones from becoming thin, brittle and misshapen.Additionally, there is research that vitamin D may help maintain a healthy immune system. Did you have any idea that your skin did allthese things for you? Your skin is literally the "point man" for your body. It is the first thing to come in contact with every weather conditionand environmental hazard.Years ago I had a doctor put me on the "Stone-Age Diet". It was a diet where I was to eat everything as close to its original form aspossible. Of course it included lots of fresh fruits and vegetables - but when it came to cooked food I was to boil, bake and grill versus fryor cover with rich sauces. The idea behind the diet was to help my body heal by making digestion easier. The same thing applies to your skin. If you have overly dry, extremely oily or dull lifeless skin - it is telling you it is not at its optimalhealth. You need to feed it with products that are "easy to digest". When you use organic skin care products and cosmetics you are feedingyour skin essential oils, vitamins and minerals that it so desperately needs. Although there are many non-organic skin care products andcosmetics that can provide these, they include added ingredients like artificial fragrances, colors and preservatives. Remember, theunderlying concept when your skin's health is compromised, is to feed it things that it can digest easily.Reading the ingredient list on organic skin care products and cosmetics can be like selecting from a menu of wonderful, mouthwatering fruits, vegetables and edible flowers at a fine restaurant. For example: fresh raspberries in a facial cleanser to help withexfoliation; rosemary to stimulate and restore vitality to dull, lifeless skin; or pure essential oil of rose to envelop your skin with aprotective, nourishing film to soothe and regenerate. Just writing about it gets my beauty juices flowing! What about the downside of going organic? Generally, because a product is organic it is very concentrated so you do not need to usea lot of product. You can also keep your skin care regimen to three or four products that do it all. Both or these factors make the cost peruse comparable to non-organic products. Using the products regularly so you reach the bottom of the bottle within approximately six weeksOR storing them in a cool, dark place or refrigerator if you are not using them regularly (or live in a very hot climate) will keep spoilage to aminimum. If you notice a product has an odd smell, discard it. However, if the product simply separates leaving oils sitting on top, you canstir it up with a plastic spoon and feel completely confident using it.If you experience any kind of an adverse reaction to anything organic you should immediately discontinue use just like you wouldwith something non-organic. Even though a product is organic - you can still experience an allergic reaction to one or more ingredients. So, go organic...and have some fun doing it!Carin Hansen was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 40.
