♦ Quick and Easy Rosewater For every 1 firmly packed cup of rose petals, pour 2 cups boiling water over top. Cover and steep until the liquid is cool. Strain, squeeze out the liquid from the petals, and refrigerate the rose water in a sterilized jar.
Making Rosewater in the summer from your own garden roses is a wonderful way to have a steady supply for yourself or others.  Simply freeze the rosewater in new freezer bags.  When ready to use, or give away, thaw and transfer to sterilized jars.

For anyone who has dry lips but has to be cautious with what ingredients are in your lipsticks, glosses and moisurizers due to allergies - here is a wonderful organic tint from The Ultimate Natural Beauty Book by Josephine Fairley.

Think Pink Lip Tint

Beets are used to produce this great lip tint.  You need to grate cooked beets to extract the juice, or use a bottled pure beet juice, available form natural food stores.

      2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
2 tablespoons beeswax granules or grated beeswax
3 teaspoons beet juice (use less if you want a paler balm)
      4 drop peppermint essential oil

Gently heat the oil and the beeswax in a double boiler.  Remove from the heat and gradually add the beet juice, a teaspoon at a time, until you get the color you like; whisk very well with a fork or small whisk.  Add the peppermint oil, whisk again and transfer to a small sterilized jar.

♦ To fight a fungal infection in your nails try therapeutic grade Cassia oil.  Cassia oil is extracted from Cinnamomum aromaticum and is otherwise known as cinnamon.   Because of its “warming” properties you will want to dilute it with a carrier oil .  Almond oil is a great one.  Mix a  drop of cassia to two drops of your carrier oil.  Dip a cotton ball in the mixture and bind it on the affected nail(s) with a strip of latex free/hypoallergenic co-adhesive tape that sticks to itself...not you.  Try Johnson and Johnson’s Hurt Free  Tape.  Daily trim away any loose skin or nail and reapply.

Make your feet happy with this foot reviving soak recipe from The Ultimate Natural Beauty Book by Josephine Fairley.

Rosemary Foot Reviver
The mint and rosemary in this recipe are naturally cooling and invigorating, while the lactic acid in the milk is soothing.  If you put pebbles or marbles in the bottom of the bowl, you can roll your toes over them while you soak your feet, which is totally relaxing for body, soul - and soles.

     1 cup milk
1 packed cup fresh mint leaves
     6 large sprigs fresh rosemary
     6 drops peppermint essential oil

Put the milk and fresh herbs in a small pan over a low heat and simmer for 15 minutes.  Remove the pan from the heat, and pour into a bowl large enough to bathe your feet in.  You may also use a foot soak sauna.  Fill as required with warm or cool water, as preferred - or, best of all, some more milk.  Add the peppermint essential oil, drop by drop, and swish.  Soak away!  (Italics mine)

½ cup  Rose water (*homemade or store bought)

1 medium cucumber, chopped

Squeeze juice out of cucumber. Mix with glycerin and rose water. Shake well. Refrigerate. Apply over face, neck and hands. This tames a sunburn and lessen the potential for blistering.
